June wildlife update
Our Conservation Officer, Sophie, shares the wildlife updates from the Park during June.
Avian highlights:
- Reed Warbler – in fine voice in multiple locations across the park
- Common Tern – still on nests on the rafts on Overton Lake, hopefully we’ll hear the the patter of tiny feet soon!
- Grey Wagtail – spotted at West Holmes, along the river bank
- Bullfinch – confirmed breeding pair in Ferry Meadows
- Little Egret
- We had a Dunnock fledgeling with a headache after it flew into an office window! It was fine after a little rest in a quiet box and flew off happily
- Following the restoration works last summer on Teal Scrape, the species count is now up to 46 species, including some not seen in that area before. Thanks to our volunteers who are carrying out regular counts across the Park to help with our records
Other species spotted:
- Scarlet Tiger moth
- Roe deer – the two fawns mentioned last month are still doing well
- Norfolk Hawker dragonfly – still being spotted across the estate
- Summer butterflies including ringlet, meadow brown, marbled white.

Please make sure bird baths or a little tub of water are topped up for all our wildlife to get a quick drink.
