Park Code

Our Park is for everyone – together let’s look after it, enjoy it and keep it safe and welcoming by following a few simple rules.

Do…

  • Take care on land & water – paths may be uneven and lakes are deep with hidden hazards.
  • Cycle responsibly – please don’t go too fast, make sure you keep left, and use your bell if you have one.
  • Help our plants and flowers to thrive – please just look and don’t pick so that everyone can enjoy them.
  • Use marked routes and designated areas – for horse riding and fishing.
  • Barbecue safely – bring your own raised BBQs or use our permanent BBQ stands. Disposable barbecues are not permitted
  • Recycle & tidy up – use the right bins or take litter home.
  • Keep dogs under control – make sure they’re on leads in the appropriate zones in Ferry Meadows, as well as when near livestock in our rural spaces. And don’t forget the rules kick in at 9am, so if you want a lead-free stroll, get in early.
  • Clean up your dog poo – please bag it up and put it in the general waste bin or take it home.
  • Feed ducks safely – please don’t feed them bread. Pick up duck-friendly feed from the Visitor Centre.
  • Plan ahead – contact us first to use one of our spaces for your events or group visits.
  • Remember it’s a shared space – walkers, runners, cyclists all share the same paths so please remember that when using one of our parks. Consider others: keep noise limited and avoid obstructing paths and busy areas.
  • Enjoy your visit!

Don’t…

  • Swim or paddle in lakes/rivers (unless part of an authorised group).
  • Walk on ice in winter – even to rescue your dog.
  • Camp, stay overnight or use your caravan outside official areas.
  • Use disposable or gas barbecues or light fires on the ground.
  • Leave litter – please keep our parks and spaces green
  • Let dogs disturb wildlife, livestock, or other visitors.
  • Leave dogs in hot cars.

There are a number of activities not permitted in Nene Park as follows: 

  • Camping or caravanning outside of official areas
  • Using the car parks for driving tuition
  • Fires, fireworks and Chinese lanterns
  • Golf outside of golf course areas
  • Kite buggies
  • Launching hot air balloons
  • Metal detecting
  • Electric vehicles (including scooters) aside from battery cars/mobility scooters
  • Off road motor biking
  • Off road quad biking
  • Radio controlled petrol driven cars
  • Radio controlled planes (unless part of an authorised group)
  • Drones
  • Trading
  • Bouncy castles unless pre agreed through events booking procedure

Activities not permitted on water:

  • Magnet fishing or fishing on the rowing course at Thorpe Meadows
  • Radio controlled boats 
  • Jet skiing
  • Swimming/paddling (unless part of an authorised group)
